Councilor Phyllis Oden-Jones is a lifelong resident of Fairfield, Alabama where she resides with her husband Herman Jones. She is the daughter of the late Archie L. Oden Sr., a native of Fairfield and a retired Birmingham Transit Bus Driver in Birmingham, and mother, the late Elizabeth Oden, a retired nurse from Veteran Administrative Hospital in Birmingham. Her parents resided in the Fairfield community for over 65 years.
Councilor Oden-Jones was educated in the Fairfield School System. She attended Fisk University in Nashville, Tennessee majoring in biology and graduated from University of Alabama in Birmingham, obtaining her bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice. She also holds an associated degree from Lawson State Community College.
Councilor Oden-Jones is a retired Birmingham Police Officer/Supervisor who worked for 30 years protecting and serving the community. While working in this capacity she worked in several different departments: Patrol, School Resource Officer (SRO), Drug Awareness Resistance Education Program (D.A.R.E), Police Athletic Team (PAT) girls’ coordinator, Patrol Supervisor and Investigator Supervisor.
Councilor Oden-Jones was elected to the Fairfield City Council District 5 in 2020. She serves as Chair of the Public Safety Committee and a member of the Human Resource, Telecommunication and Street and Sanitation Committees.
Councilor Oden-Jones is the mother of Rodarryl and Brandon Jones. She is a member of Antioch Baptist Church in Fairfield, Alabama under the leadership of Pastor Ocie Oden Sr.
Councilor Oden-Jones mission is to represent the community, form relationships with the constituents, be reliable to constituents, get resources and rebuild the community. Increase our desire for a better community, we can do it together.
